environmental policy

Our challenge is to have an effective environmental policy that doesn’t diminish your experience of this gorgeous place.
It is said that, within the tourism industry, accommodation has the greatest environmental impact through its use of water (particularly in the laundering of linen), power and packaging.
We have attempted to reduce our ‘environmental footprint’ by:
- Trebling our rainwater storage
- Reusing all grey water on the gardens
- Replacing our incandescent light globes with warm-light compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs.
- Planting native trees – 700 so far, and still planting
- Using compostible packaging & garbags; using recycled paper for our stationery, our toilet rolls, tissues & other paper products
- Using cleaning products selected because of their minimal impact on the environment
- Turning off power points after you leave
- Converting to 100% GreenPower with Jackgreen
- Recycling
- Limiting our use of packaging
- Replacing electrical goods with high-energy-efficiency products
- Encouraging guests to avoid extreme settings on air-conditioners
- Joining the World Vision “Twice As Green” program
How you can help elsewhere:
- Let the hotel know you don’t need sheets or towels changed
- Use water wisely
- Turn off the air-conditioning & lights when leaving the room
- Recycle
- Ask the hotel if they have an environmental policy
- Patronise accommodation that has “healthy planet” programs & environmental policies
We would appreciate any suggestion you may like to make on how we can further reduce our environmental impact.
